I am using WP Office 13

The past several months QP has started saving tmp files. I don't know why these files are saving, but instead of saving to some kind of temp directory they save to the same directory the file I am editing is located in. It seems to save a tmp file each time I save the file. These files are cluttering up my directories. I have tried to delete them, but then the file won't open. Also, I have renamed a file and it opened in QP just fine. In one directory I have almost 500 tmp files just from editing one or two files. The have the format of ~QB*.tmp   the * represents unique combo of letters & numbers to keep the file from overwriting another one. QP has never done this before & I would like to stop it. It is extremely annoying and inconvenient to have so many files in my directories. It makes it very difficult to find the files I need. Ahy ideas what is going on here & how to solve it? BTW, I am using WinXP
