Can I get rid of this?

When I download a DOC file from the net and it is saved to the HD and goes to open in WP I see this. Is there any way to shut this off so I don't see it?

Soft return doesn't left justify

How do I get a soft return to left justify. A hard return goes all the way to the left, but the soft return lines up with the first letter of the first line, which I don't want.

Moving Lines

Does anyone know how to create a form to that a user can type on a line without the line moving around? Some of the so-called forms that my buddies have created for me at work are getting a little bit frustrating. Thanks in advance for your help.

Does anyone know how to use the strikeout feature? Do you know how to use the document compare and then use the strikeout feature where you replace a word, strikeout the old one but it stays so you can see it?

Trying out the additional word processor functionality in the latest update:

You have probably seen some of the details on our latest release - where we have a module that will allow you to take notes and folders of notes into Microsoft Word (you used to be able to only do this to WordPerfect), as well as save individual Notes in Microsoft Word (.doc) format (even without Microsoft Word on the system!) - essentially making Lightning a very economical replacement for Microsoft Word for low end word processing.

This is actually a separate module that gets downloaded after you start to down the path to use the functionality. Here's how you do it:

Download the latest Corel Lightning product from www.corel.com/lightning
Two easy ways to get the module once you download are:
1. to select "Save As" from the tool bar in the Viewer window
2. click the Settings button in the tool bar of Navigator window and then select the word processor module
Once you select either of these options (Save gives you the options dialog to download, Settings requires you to select Microsoft Word and then it gives you the options dialog)
Go through the download process (it should be automatic) and then you should have the functionality for a free 30 day trial (I had to re-start the application but I may have been to eager on getting through the process and didn't let it install)
Then, use the functionality...Tell us what you think...You should now be able to save individual notes in .doc format to share with others and you can select a folder of Notes to automagically flow into Microsoft Word - saving you time of cutting and pasting.

How to add footnotes, endnotes, or comments to Lightning notes

If you are using WordPerfect X3 as your word processor, you can mark text to be treated as footnotes, endnotes, or comments in a Lightning note and quickly convert the marked text to those formats once you have exported the note to WordPerfect X3. The trick is to download and install Barry MacDonnell's CONVERTR.wcm macro into WordPerfect X3.

"All you need to do is mark your document's text with your own text markers -- such as <<double beginning and ending brackets>> -- to "park" draft material or insert quick annotations, reviewer's comments, passing ideas, etc. Play CONVERTR at a later time to "clean up" your document by removing these items or converting them to another form[,]" such as footnotes, endnotes, or comments.

This is only one example of how you can dramatically expand the utility of Lightning when used in combination with WordPerfect Office PerfectScripts. I heartily recommend that folks who have WordPerfect X3 but don't want to wait for new features in Lightning check out what's available in the way of PerfectScript add-ons for WordPerfect X3. using WPMail

So, it now seems that you can send information to a WPMail email, but it's not particularly intuitive. It also requires that you have WPMail set up as your default client.

If you choose "send to email" and then get the "you have not set up a default client. . . ." message box, try clicking the "x" to close the box instead of cancel or OK.

A moment after doing that, my WPMail compose window opens with the content displayed as expected.

I am interested to see if this works for anyone else.

Now, if I could just be assured that my notes wouldn't randomly disappear, this might be a pretty good product after all.

Take Snapshots using the keyboard

Once you've clicked "Snapshot to...", you can press the space bar to use Snapshot in keyboard mode. You can now use the arrow keys to size the area of your snapshot. You can also move which corner you are controlling with the arrow keys by pressing the Tab button. Press the space bar again to take your snapshot or press ESC to cancel.

I develop ms access applications and solutions for a living. There are several expensive tools in use to keep re-usable code organized in, but WP Lightning with its tree style organization can do the same job quite effectively. If you develop code and re-use that code on a regular basis, cutting and pasting it into and out of Lightning is a much simpler way of doing it instead of buying an expensive code tool or having to re-open old projects and hunting for what you need.

SnapShot and don't get lost!

A few of you have already said you like the SnapShot tool. For those who haven't tried it here is another use I had for it this weekend.

We were in Syracuse at a hockey tournament (bit of a cliche for a Canadian...eh?) . Anyway we managed to find our way to the hotel with the directions the team sent out, but they were obviously not too good as we did get lost a few times. So, I fired up Lightning and took SnapShots of the map that was available online, zooming in and out as needed. Then I just brought my laptop in the car and had no problems from then on.

Sweet.

Setting up the free online account

When you initiate the creation of the account you will see a dialog box that prompts you for some information.

Domain:
You must enter something here between 3 and 40 characters long. Only alpha-numeric caharacters and hyphens are allowed. It must begin and end with an alpha-numeric character. The domain must be unique so if the one you have chosen has been taken you will be prompted to enter another one.

Organization:
Must not be blank.

User name:
You must enter a user name less than 50 characters long (it should be at least 8 characters long). Only a-z, 0-9, '_' and '-' are allowed. It must begin with an alphabetical character.

First name:
Cannot be blank

Last name:
Cannot be blank

E-mail address:
Use a valid e-mail address because you will be sent a confirmation message that includes your password.

Save online account information in Lightning

Once you have created an online account and recieved your confirmation email message, call up the Settings dialog box from the navigator and go to the Online Services section. There you will see that you can enter your domain, user name and password. Enter them here and then when you access the Online Portal from the navigator or when you synchronize your data you will not need to sign in - you'll be in automatically.

Making lightning the default PDF viewer

I've been playing with Lightning for a few hours and really like it. One thing I would love to be able to do is set it as my default PDF viewer as it's really fast to open. In the mean-time, her is a tip to make this work.

Right-click on a PDF file and select "Open With > Choose Program...". There, select WordPerfect Lightning and make sure to check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Producing a Cumulative Status Report

I'm finding Lightning a useful tool for aggregating snippets of content into a status report.

a. Setup a folder. From the Navigator window, create a folder in the Notes section named for the Project(s)...I chose All product Status for my purposes

b. Accumulate status items by pasting into new Notes inside the parent folder. In my situation I created individual notes with snippets of status and actions from each individual project I'm working on.

c. It's relatively low-impact to keep these snippets up to date.

d. When I need overall status, I Right Mouse Click on the parent folder and select Send to WordPerfect (I have WordPerfect installed). It quickly aggregates my status snippets into a report.

I've learned through a couple trials that some basic formatting in the Notes removes the need for formatting in WPO. Should work nicely for reports that require the aggregation of large amounts of information. Saves me having to edit a large document all the time.

Might be nice to 'Send to email' but is currently unavailable.
