Quattro X4 shuts down when I try to open my .wb3 spreadsheets from my old version 8.  Is there a fix to this.  The spread sheets have numerous formulas on them which would be time consuming to replicate.  I am running (unfortunately) a Vista operating system.

I open WB3 files from QP versions 7/8 properly in X4 on Vista 64 without problems.  I also save files to WB3 format for a friend who still has QP8.  He has not any issues with those files.

Do any of your formulas reference data in other WB3 files?  I had a problem with that when I first started using X4.  I never got a satisfactory answer from Corel support but the problem seems to have solved itself.  I can now open and work with files with references to other files with X4 crashing.

Try changing your calculation mode from Natural to Row or Column wise.

Where are these settings located?

None of the formulas reference data in other WB3 files.  I also can open and use some of my wb3 files.  But not the spread sheets which are very detailed with a lot of formulas.

Found the setting and changed it.  Tried changing it in Q8 and saving.  Then opening in X4.   Also changing in X4 before opening.  All with no luck.  Same thing happens.  Program crashes.

There are some other tricks to try.  I doubt that they will help though.  IF you want to try, some of the methods are: 1. Replace the workspace. 2. Remove recent history. 3. Command line switches to repair.  I explained all of these at wpu.

If you try the command line repair switch method, be sure to try it on a backup copy of the file.

Problem solved.  By experimenting with copy and paste from V8 to X4 I discovered the caption on top the v8 spreadsheet "2009 Fund Allocation" to be the culprit.  Once that was removed the file opened.  I tried leaving it in and choosing text in the properties menu but that did not work.  However, I discovered that I could select labels only in the data input constraints portion of the cell properties box and then X4 would accept it.
