Save time by automating with macros

Hi Folks,

A great feature of WordPerfect is the ability to automate what actually gets created, so that you can save time by using WordPerfect to complete what would normally be repetitive tasks.  Think of how many times you may create a signature at the bottom of a letter, grab data from some other place (like a database), or change dates in a document.  Larger organizations utliize macros a great deal.  But, you can too.  Check out the basic tutorial below to get started with your own documents:

As you become more proficient you can start using other tools like variables (for more advanced users).  http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel2/Products/Content&pid=1047022958453&cid=1047024297526&trkid=wpe0205tip1 But, once you start playing with macros it won't be a huge leap for you.

If you are into macros let me know about it and I can post more tips on this interesting area.

Regards,

Jay

Toolbar, keyboard and menu editing would be other good youtube projects.  You could add the macro from this recording to a button on a toolbar, a keyboard shortcut or a menu for example.

Barry MacDonnell explains editing toolbar, keyboard and menus at his site. wptoolbox.com/.../EasyPlay.html

A QuickMacro tutorial might be another good youtube project.

Looking for a way to automate Gender in my merge files.  Was hoping to  use the If statement but it's not working properly.  No problem to this point but wanted to include "his".  Tried ELSE   and had ENDIF after the statement.  Anyone with any suggestions?

IF(MERGEFIELD(GENDER)=F;her)

If you want to check one particular field to see if it is one of several values it might be best to assign it as a variable value and compare it to the contents of an array. Then assign an new variable a value based on the results of the comparison.

QuickWords is another useful tool.  I type quotations with repetitive descriptions.  I saved those descriptions to QuickWords as simple abbreviations.  ie, when I type dcat, quickwords types duplex controller alarm telemetry module.  No mouse or hand movement is required.  Very easy and very quick.
